My experience has been gained from volunteering at a Halifax based charity, where I continue to work and see both adults and young people and from working in my own practise. I have experience with a multitude of issues. I am happy to help those looking for short term counselling or long term counselling for those who have very complex multiple issues.
I also have many years of experience relating to issues around i.v.f such as loss and guilt. I have been offering support for over fifteen years to those going through the adoption process and the many issues that surround this very complex process, from both the biological and adoptive parents prospective. This has allowed me to gain a deep understanding about loss, trauma and attachment issues and the long term implications for all concerned.
I continue to attend C.P.D (continual personal development) courses which increases my knowledge of issues such as addictions and substance abuse and increases my own self – awareness. I am fully insured.
As a member of the B.A.C.P I adhere to all their code of ethics and as such, all our work will be confidential. I also attend regular one to one supervision and peer group supervision, to ensure a good standard of counselling, at all times.
My name is Suzanne Collins and I am a qualified counsellor and B.A.C.P Accredited. and am on the accredited voluntary register. I have studied at Calderdale College, Sheffield City College and North Nottinghamshire College and have gained a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I have had in depth bereavement training from Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, which has given me a deep understanding of loss, empathy and loneliness.
I believe in treating people as individuals and there will be a mutual trust and openness between us. I will adapt my approach to suit my client’s individual needs. I have qualifications in both the Person Centred and the Psychodynamic approach. This enables me to help you with issues which you may be experiencing now, or issues which may have occurred in your earlier life.
I will support you in making sense of the challenges that you are experiencing in your life. My hope is that by listening and gently challenging, you may gain new insight, build on your inner strength and find a way forward with your life and feel more empowered to make your own decision.
I will help to identify triggers in your life, which will help to explain your current feelings and behaviours. We will work collaboratively by exploring thoughts, feelings, behaviours, relationships, experiences and help to develop your personal awareness. So that issues which maybe overwhelming you and may seem daunting, becoming less overwhelming. In turn, allowing you to move forward with your life, feeling freer and more in control of your own decision making.
